Balmain Spring 2010

I know this showed a while ago, but I was inspired by all the military and chain mail I've been seeing all over the Spring issues, to do a much needed Balmain throwback post. First of all I cannot believe all the mixed reviews Christophe received for this collection. It's like the critics were dissapointed after his previous collection that had everyone in a frenzy (drummer boy jackets, bleached denim etc.) Ok I get it, it was brilliant, I mean the amount of knockoffs and attention that collection generated was completely insane.
The spring collection was like a breath of fresh air, all the olive greens, golds and earthy tones, less glamazon more warrior. So damn good. It was still very much Christophe, just a fresh spin on things. How funny that some were so harsh toward this collection and now every magazine and retailer is practically falling over themselves trying to show their version of Balmain. Influential? I would say so.
PS. I hate all the stupid little tees with wana-be embellished and chain shoulders at H&M and Forever21. They don't even come close.

Freja for Twin Magazine

Freja Beha Erichsen is one of my fave cat-walkers, I espesh adore her off duty style because she keeps it androgynous and is usually decked out in lots of black leather. I think she dresses like a boy because she likes girls, so the story goes. I suspect her and Abbey Lee may or may not have a special bond, I've seen countless pics of them hanging out after shows etc, usually in an embrace and or looking lovingly into each other's eyes. Whatever it is they definitely make a good pair. I love them both.

Freja stars in Twin Magazine's Stand and Deliver layout..I have not seen the full spread but you can watch the video of her getting styled and shot for it here: It's pretty amazing.

Definitely love the green tips at Proenza Schouler, it's so green monsterish and gross, but so great. I have yet to find an affordable and attainable substitute for Chanel's Jade (green) nail polish, tear.

Balmain Fall 2010

Once again Christophe Decarnin didn't disappoint with this collection. There were the signature 'strong' shoulders, metallic sequins and minis. I DIE for the leather leggings, espesh the red and black ones, as a matter of fact the gold ones are just fine too. The pant suits reminded me of Tom Ford for Gucci circa 1995 but everything else was still 80's glam and I ain't mad at that.

I always try to achieve this look, piling on all my rings at once(well not all, but a good number) but it never seems to work because my ring and pinkie fingers are too small for most of them , sigh. Nonetheless I love the way it looks, a ring on every finger. I always get a bit irritated with too many rings on anyway, it feels somewhat claustrophobic to me. I pretty much only end up with 2 on each hand most days. I suppose I need some tough yet delicate rings to balance the look and feel on my hands. My small fingers also create another problem; choosing which rings to wear, I usually end up with favorites while others get no love. Poor babies.
